New ADU Law in CA in regards to HOAs

For homeowners who live in a housing development governed by a HOA, it sometimes has been difficult to build an ADU because of HOA rules. However, things have changed! On August 30, 2019, the Governor of California signed AB-670, which “makes the governing documents of an HOA void and unenforceable if they prohibit the construction of an ADU or JADU on a lot zoned for single-family use that meets the requirements of state law governing ADUs.” (quote from the Assembly Floor Analysis)
